I help leaders understand new, disruptive forces. Governments are too slow, too conservative, and mostly set in their ways.
But the world is changing faster than conventional politicians and diplomats realize. To compete in geopolitics—as in sports, business, and life—governments need to outperform the competition, not just whine about it. And politicians can’t turn back the clock.

That’s why America’s government is failing to adapt to the new Asia, for example. Instead of just producers and exporters, Asians are now consumers and importers. They are capital providers, not just recipients. And economic integration is making Asia more Asian without it becoming dominated only by China.

Leaders need to understand risk and then ride waves of change. I’ve successfully navigated risk in both the public and private sectors. Helping leaders to succeed is my business.
Biography
I’ve worked with presidents, prime ministers, and senior policymakers from two-dozen countries, served in executive roles in the U.S. government, negotiated both bilateral and multilateral international agreements, advised market participants in all asset classes, and consulted for leading multinational companies.

My sweet spot is the intersection of geopolitics with market and business risks. I've advised two Secretaries of State, a former Treasury Secretary, leading CEOs, and boards of directors, especially on Asia and technology.

I’ve worked all over the world but especially in Asia—a region with 4.5 billion people, projected to comprise 58% of global GDP by 2030, which includes six countries with nuclear weapons, powerfully clashing nationalisms, territorial disputes that threaten to erupt into war, and huge potential for disruptive geopolitical and technology risk.
I span four worlds: government, markets and corporate advisory, think tanks, and academia.
